"There is one best place to bury a dog.
"If you bury him in this spot, he will come to you when you call
- come to you over the grim, dim frontier of death,
and down the well-remembered path, and to your side again.
"And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel,
they shall not growl at him, nor resent his coming,
for he belongs there.
"People may scoff at you,
who see no lightest blade of grass bent by his footfall,
who hear no whimper,
people who may never really have had a dog.
Smile at them,
for you shall know something that is hidden from them,
and which is well worth the knowing.
"The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of his master."

Catch Up Time
It has been awhile since I've posted; so here's what's been happening with us.
Both Jaclyn and Lizzy are doing well in college. They're keeping busy with school work and friends.
Tammy and I visited the NY Gangwers for a weekend back in the middle of September. We stayed at mom and dad's new RV trailer and enjoyed getting to know our neices better.
At the end of October, Tammy and I went to a Vermont Bed and Breakfast. The first day we experienced life on the farm. The second day, we spent exploring Montpelier.
We came home from there to the historic Nor'easter that left us without power for 4 days. We used the wood stove in the breezeway to keep the house around 60 and went to bed when it got dark around 7pm. Some people are still without power as of this writing and the streets are lined with tree debris.
During the power outage, I removed the kitchen floor - all 5 of them. Next weekend, we hope to have a tile floor layed in the kitchen and breezeway.

Flashback -- Summer Vacation 2011
Prior to becoming empty nesters, we spent the week of August 27 in Perdido Key, FL for our summer vacation with Tammy's parents and her brother, my parents and nephew AJ, Jaclyn's friend Brook Anne, and Lizzy's boyfriend Stas. Enjoy the pictures to the right (which can be viewed better by clicking on them and going to the Picasa web site).

Sunrise, Sunset, Swiftly flow the days...
Well, it's August, and summer is quickly fading to a close -- as are many things.
The girls will be finishing up their summer jobs in a couple of weeks and heading off to PCC. Jaclyn to begin her junior year and Lizzy her freshman year -- leaving Tammy and I empty-nesters.
The six hanging plants that we purchased at the beginning of May have worn themselves out from flowering and are on their last petals. The garden peas and green beans have come and gone, and unfortunately, the tomatoes caught a disease and wilted away.
My dad came down in mid-July and helped with the sheet-rocking and taping of the breezeway's ceiling and walls. I sanded it all and with Tammy's help will be putting the final coat of paint on it today. Tuesday, the counter salesman comes to see about putting one in between the kitchen and breezeway. That just leaves the trim work and floor tiling left -- which look like September projects for now.

A Visit to VT and More
Things have been pretty busy here.
The weekend of Father's Day, Tammy and I went to the VT Grandparents to visit with them and Robin's family who were up to visit. Pictures are posted to the right.
We have been redoing our breezeway. In May, we removed the ceiling tiles. During June, we removed the ceiling joists, removed the top half of our barn board walls, and ran new electrical. This month of July, we hope to insulate, put up drywall, and tile the floor.
Lizzy's boyfriend became a US citizen. After his swearing-in cermony, we had a party at our house to celebrate. Pictures are posted to the right.
Lizzy got her driver's license.
After close to twenty years working third shift, Tammy will be going days.
Now it's July and ...

The Merry, Merry Month of May
The month of May has been busy.
On Thursday, May 12th, Jaclyn returned from PCC having completed her sophomore year of nursing. She made the Dean's List both semesters. For summer employment, she has returned to her job at Once Upon a Child.
On Friday, May 13, the whole family packed up the car and headed to the home of the NY Gangwers. We spent the weekend visiting with them and staying in the VT Grandparent's RV at a nearby campground.
On Friday, May 20th, we all attended Lizzy's senior banquet at Tocca Country Club. We shared a table with her date's family. Pictures are posted at the right.
On Thursday, May 26th, Lizzy had her graduation party at Olive Garden. In attendance were her grandparents from VT and IL, her uncle from IL, her boyfriend, and her family.
On Friday, May 27th, Lizzy culminated 15 years of schooling when she received her high school diploma from Pioneer Valley Christian School. She earned all A's in her senior course work and was given the Timothy Award by her classmates. She will continue to work this summer at Once Upon a Child where she has worked all year. In the fall, Lizzy plans on attending PCC to study commercial art. There are pictures of graduation posted to the right.
On Saturday, May 28th, Jaclyn and I painted the backyard deck. Then on Sunday, May 29th, Tammy and I opened the pool.

Spring: Romanticism vs. Realism
Flowering plants
and budding trees.
Making a pollen breeze,
watery eyes, and a tremendous sneeze.
Greening zoysia grass
that's quickly growing.
Buying costly gas
that's for weekly mowing.
Tilling the soil
to plant vegetable seeds.
Having to toil
to pull the summer weeds.
Singing in the morning
are the various birds.
Waking me from snoring
to wash the cars of their ______.

Amusement - An Activity that is Diverting
Well, the snow has pretty much melted here in CT, and hopefully, we can say good riddance to it until next winter. Most of us are probably feeling like the guy in the following video. Please click on the link to watch.
So what have we been up to while stuck inside. I must woefully confess that I became lazy and mindless this winter and allowed the television to entertain me. Below are the programs that we have amused ourselves with this winter.
Ron's "DVR"-ed shows:
American Pickers
An Idiot Abroad
Anthony Bordain's No Reservations
CSI - the original and NY (not the Miami one -- yuck)
Holmes Inspection
Outsourced
The Office - because I like Jim's antics
Wipeout
60 Minutes
Tammy's "DVR"-ed shows:
The Waltons
The Wonder Years
Ron and Tammy's "DVR"-ed shows:
Chuck
The Middle
Shows I watch religiously:
NBC30 Local News
Channels I will watch if flipping through the remote (in the order that I check them):
HGTV
DIY
History Channel
Military Channel
Science Channel
Discovery

The Latest from Our Corner of the World
Elizabeth - Continues to work at Once Upon a Child one to three times a week. Still doing well in her senior year course work. Has been accepted at Pensacola Christian College for next year where she will study Graphics Arts.
Jaclyn - Recently returned to PCC to finish her sophmore nursing year after spending five frigid, snow-filled weeks with us for Christmas break. Worked at Once Upon a Child and house sat to earn some book money. Learned how to use a snow blower.
Tammy - Continues her jobs at Baystate and Pioneer Valley Christian School. Helps out at home with snow blowing driveway and roof raking when Ron is stuck at work.
Ron - Had the road take its revenge for the earlier post as hit some debris on the interstate which did 4 grand worth of damage to car. Spent a total of five nights (so far) at work because of winter storms that seem to come about every Tuesday to Wednesday.
The Weather - It's as bad as the news reports say it is. Snow piled up everywhere!!!
